History & Origins
Dachshunds were developed in Germany over 300 years ago to hunt badgers ("Dachs" means badger, "Hund" means dog). Their elongated bodies and short legs allowed them to follow prey into underground burrows. The breed was refined in the 18th and 19th centuries for different game sizes.
