History & Origins
Rottweilers descend from Roman drover dogs that accompanied herds through the Alps into Germany. They settled in the cattle town of Rottweil, where they became known as "Rottweil butcher dogs." The breed nearly went extinct in the 1800s before being revived for police and military work.
